Who We Are

Faith in Action Alabama consists of over 150 faith communities across race and faith lines from throughout Alabama.  The strength of Faith in Action Alabama stems from the passion, vision and leadership of its volunteer leaders.  All of Faith in Action Alabama’s campaigns are led by its volunteers.

Mission & Vision

Mission: Faith In Action Alabama honors God by dismantling systemic racism to create pathways of opportunity for all Alabamians.

Vision: We envision an Alabama where justice, equity, and opportunity are accessible to everyone, regardless of race or class, achieved through the collective power of multiracial and multifaith community organizing.

Our Impact

Faith in Action Alabama’s dedication has led to significant, tangible results across Alabama. Here are some of our key accomplishments:

2018

Secured the City of Huntsville’s commitment to require its police force to participate in implicit bias training.

2019

Played key role in Mobile County’s decision to create a public defender’s office.

2021

Was instrumental in grassroots organizing to secure Birmingham and Jefferson County’s commitment to invest $5.3 million in a proven community-based anti-gun violence strategy.

2023

Was instrumental in securing an increase of $1.5 million in Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Commission’s budget to ensure victims’ applications are processed more quickly.

2024

Contributed to preventing efforts by the Montgomery County Commission to divert funds earmarked for a hospital-/community-based anti-gun violence strategy.

2025

In coalition with over 40 other organizations, helped to secure the passage of state legislation that has led to increased state funding for every Alabama public school district.

Our Reach (Faith in Action Alabama Hubs)

Beginning with six volunteers in 2015, we started an effort to establish a statewide multifaith, multiracial community organizing nonprofit. By 2016, Faith in Action Alabama was formally established, with Hubs in Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile and Montgomery. In 2023, Faith in Action Alabama established 5 additional Hubs in Autauga County, Macon County, Phenix City and South Alabama, which consists of Butler County, Conecuh County, Escambia County, Lowndes County and the Union Springs Region.

Working to secure full funding of the City of Birmingham’s hospital-/community-based violence intervention program

Fostering community engagement and addressing local inequities.

Working on rural economic development issues

Leading efforts for criminal justice reform and youth empowerment.

Our Leadership

The strength of Faith in Action Alabama lies in our powerful volunteer base. Our comprehensive leadership development program is designed to build the capacity of individuals from diverse faith traditions and backgrounds, empowering them to become effective advocates and organizers. We uplift diverse voices, ensuring that our movement is truly representative of the communities we serve. Typically, each year, over 250 grassroots residents participate in the organization’s leadership development trainings.
